For years, Lopzang Dadul herded his yaks, sheep and goats across the vast, vertiginous landscape near India’s contested border with China, following the seasons to find grazing land. All these areas are winter grazing areas of Chushul village. He says 60 of the 113 households in his village used to be nomadic; now only 10 are maintaining the tradition due to those factors and lost grazing lands. New Delhi says two sites remain contested along the Ladakh border after disengagement at other contested zones following the 2020 clash. Reduced patrolling led to an ultimate loss of control over such areas, where China grabs land “inch-by-inch,” the report said.

Sports Illustrated’s owner on Monday sued Manoj Bhargava, the energy drinks mogul whose foray into media has been rife with chaos and conflict, accusing him of failing to pay millions of dollars for the rights to publish the iconic magazine. The 51-page lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, says that Mr. Bhargava and Arena Group, the publisher he controls, owe $48.75 million in missed payments, as well as damages for infringing on Sports Illustrated’s copyrights and trademarks. The lawsuit represents the latest public skirmish between Authentic Brands Group, which owns Sports Illustrated, and Mr. Bhargava, the 5-Hour Energy drink founder whose effort to take control of Sports Illustrated’s parent company has resulted in a series of lawsuits and turmoil at the sports publication. Sports Illustrated is being operated by Minute Media, a New York-based sports-media company that wrested the title away from Arena Group last month by striking a new deal with the magazine’s owner. After Arena Group laid off scores of employees in January and threatened to discontinue Sports Illustrated’s print edition, Minute Media pledged to hire some of them back and keep the magazine alive.

WASHINGTON — Billionaire 5-hour Energy entrepreneur Manoj Bhargava maintained allegedly undeclared bank accounts worth hundreds of millions of dollars at the Swiss bank Pictet, according to documents cited by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden, D-Ore., in a letter sent Wednesday to the bank's managing partner in Geneva. The letter, which seeks information as part of an ongoing committee investigation, did not name Bhargava, instead referring to him as "Person 1." But according to a source familiar with the investigation and documents reviewed by CNBC, Bhargava was the account holder at issue. "According to records reviewed by the Committee, Person 1 has been a Pictet client for at least fifteen years," Wyden wrote. An attorney for Bhargava, Bryan C. Skarlatos, told CNBC he had no comment on the letter.

A week earlier, he had become a large minority shareholder at The Arena Group, but had no official title. Friction between Sports Illustrated’s owner and its operator has led to disarray at the venerable magazine in recent months. But that message runs counter to what Sports Illustrated’s owner, Authentic Brands Group, has said about looking for a way to ensure that the magazine endures in print. Last year, Mr. Bhargava, the founder of the 5-Hour Energy drink company, agreed to buy a major stake in the Arena Group. In January, Authentic Brands terminated its deal with Arena Group after Arena breached its licensing agreement by failing to make a $3.75 million payment. Since then, Authentic Brands has been weighing a deal with new licensees, leading to the current uncertainty.

That helped India expand at a forecast-beating 7.6%, making it one of the world's fastest-growing major economies. It has been driven by rising incomes for many Indians, a severe housing shortage in big cities and strong population growth. Builders are bullish long-term with many saying the boom could last two to three years and some even more optimistic. "The housing market could continue to perform well for another three to four years," Sanjeev Jain, managing director at Parsvnath Developers, a leading real estate company, noting that India is in the initial stages of a housing growth cycle. The government is also trying to boost the availability of affordable housing by providing subsidies, which is encouraging construction in India's smaller towns and cities.

To be sure, China is still Walmart's biggest country for importing goods. "We want the best prices," Andrea Albright, Walmart's executive vice president of sourcing said in an interview. Walmart has been accelerating growth in India since 2018, when it bought a 77% stake in Indian e-commerce firm Flipkart. Its rapidly growing workforce and technological advancement were a draw for Walmart, Albright said. The rising cost of shipping goods from China has also contributed to the switch to India, supply chain experts say.

Rescuers are still struggling to reach the construction workers 12 days after the 4.5-km (3-mile) tunnel caved in. Preliminary findings indicated the collapse may have been caused by a geological fault, known as a "shear zone", a member of the panel told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to talk to the media. "Once the rescue operations are over, we will conduct detailed investigations to find out loopholes in the construction," the panel member said. Air quality levels in the city were over 320 on the air quality index, a level categorised as 'hazardous' by Swiss group IQAir, although it was not as bad as the 400 range hit earlier this week. Schools in the capital city would remain closed from Thursday until Nov. 18 on a winter break, which was originally scheduled for January, the Delhi government said in a notification. Primary schools in the city had already been shut, as part of measures to protect young children against smog and growing air pollution.

Goldman Sachs announced its 2023 class of managing directors Thursday afternoon, giving 608 employees the coveted title. It's a smaller cohort than the bank's 2021 MD class, down 5% amid a dealmaking slowdown. Still, Goldman appears to have taken pains to promote employees in revenue-generating divisions like investment banking and trading. Goldman says the percentage of women it promoted as part of the 2023 MD class sets a record, up 1% from 2021. REUTERS/Andrew Kelly Acquire Licensing RightsNov 1 (Reuters) - Kraft Heinz (KHC.O) beat Wall Street estimates for third-quarter profit and raised its annual forecast as the Jell-O maker's margins benefited from higher prices of its packaged meals and condiments. Kraft's prices increased by 7.1 percentage points for the quarter, boosting its adjusted gross margin by 396 basis points to 34%. However, the higher prices took a toll on demand from inflation-hit customers, sending Kraft's overall volumes down 5.4 percentage points even as organic net sales grew 1.7%. The Philadelphia Cream Cheese maker forecast full-year adjusted profit in the range of $2.91 to $2.99 per share, compared with its previous range of $2.83 to $2.91.

(Reuters) - Keurig Dr Pepper beat Wall Street estimates for third-quarter sales on Thursday, as higher prices and steady demand for its sodas and drinks helped limit the hit from a slowing coffee business. Keurig Dr Pepper has also largely withstood a trade-down to private label and has not witnessed a decline in demand from the price hikes. Net sales for the third quarter increased 5.1% to $3.81 billion, beating estimates of $3.77 billion, according to LSEG data. However, the U.S. coffee segment remained under pressure, with net sales falling 3.2% to $1.01 billion. Keurig Dr Pepper, however, reaffirmed its fiscal 2023 adjusted earnings per share to rise 6% to 7% and net sales to grow 5% to 6%.
